Becoming a small business owner has many challenges and rewards that might not be applicable to all aspirants, the rewards will be based on your drive to succeed, discipline towards your goals, and the right idea on how you could expand your empire, while the challenges are fixed and out of our control.

One of the hardest parts in putting up a business is knowing the facts on how to build one, it needs more than enough of information and ideas in order not to rattle when things start to kick up. Some considered the crucial part of the process as the hardest one, but what makes it even harder is not having the idea on what that crucial part is.

The most common confusion for business starters is not having any background regarding the difference between Business Planning and Marketing Plan, and in the end they decided to eliminate one.

What’s The Difference

Business Plans tackles the entire business from the financial planning, studying target markets, deciding on the products and services to be offered, sales quota, how to cope up with business responsibilities and operations, and the overall strategies to be used.

Marketing Plan however, does not cover the overall aspects of the business. It focuses on the marketing aspect only; marketing strategies, desired target market, marketing mix to be used, programs and promos, methods of reaching out to the target market, and everything that is needed in selling a product. Though setting budgets and being keen on cash flows are important in every business; Marketing Plan does not include it on their planning (or rarely would it happen that it would be included), the main goal for Marketing Plan is to sell and generate sales but not on business processes.

What Should Be Prioritized?

Most of the business starters focus more on the Marketing than the Business Planning, complacent of their products and services; they prefer to focus on selling more and deal with the business flow later on when they generated their income and reach their quotas.

However, in order to ensure the growth of your business, having these two is more advisable. Your Business Plan will aid you on everything with regards to the internal and external matters on your business, but it does not put emphasize on Marketing which does the responsibility of selling the product and service. Imagine having a stable and well-organized Business Plan partnered with an effective Marketing Plan, it would surely protect your business even when there’s a sudden shift on the market.

Five Things To Consider

Business Plan includes everything that is needed in running a business. When you’re about to make your Business Plan, take in to consideration these important matters first:

  • Determine your Purpose – What’s your company’s vision? Why does your company exist? What is your goal? How will you reach your goal? These are only few of the things you should know first before deciding to put up a business. If you are deciding to attract investors or potential business partners, it is important that you have these shown to them. This will best represent the frame of your business.
  • Visualize the Long-Term Existence of your Business – when you imagine your business to exist for a long time, you would build a business plan that focuses on long-term goals and continuous success.
  • Clarify your Financial Model – running a business needs enough resources. It is important that you put up reliable financial projections, but also include potential trend shifting and probable scenarios to determine if your Financial Model will work out.
  • Know all the Legalities – from the brand names, legal documentations, up to the required documents needed; get yourself educated regarding these matters. You don’t want to put up something that would soon be turned down just because of some issues regarding your authenticity.
  • Do Some Research – Put it into test, see if your business plan may be appealing to your consumers. Ask experts or those who have gone through the same business as you are, study businesses who has similar plot, or even get directly answers from potential clients.

Marketing Plan focuses on selling and making sales. Though there are many things to be pointed out, here are the most important ones summarized into five:

  • Know your Business – create a list of your product or services’ strength and weaknesses. Put everything applicable on that list then analyze; what should we emphasize and what should be improved. When you determined what type of business you are in and what are your fortes, it would be easy for you to create a marketing plan since you already know how things work on your business.
  • Keep an Eye on your Market – outline your opportunities and threats, both internal and external. Take into consideration the factors that you can’t control but will try to predict, put possible solutions or answers on those matters.

Understand the trends your target market is into; how will you reach out to them or what catches their attention. Be active on the change of their preference and incorporate it when you are making innovations on your Marketing Plan.

  • Formulate your Strategies – take your list of fortes, the outline of opportunities and threats (with possible solutions), and the information gathered regarding your target market and merge them in to a Marketing Strategy. Find the connections between the three or if possible try to generate a line to connect them.
  • Set a Checklist for Updates – set specific dates on checking on the effectiveness of your strategy, is it still working or does it need a boost? Have weekly check and monthly updates, it is important that you are in track of the things that are going around the market. Strategies won’t work forever, you need to align it with the sudden changes that are unpredictable.
  • Look Back and Innovate – It is important that you always improve your marketing strategy. Your Marketing Plan should continue to evolve along with your business, the way you look at the market may vary overtime as well as how the consumers view your product. Revise if possible the parts of your strategy that doesn’t work well anymore.

The Windmill Hydrotherapy Pool in Fulbourn, Cambridge is specifically dedicated to people with learning disabilities and physical support needs. Sessions have been devised to enable people with physical and learning disabilities to exercise, swim and have fun in the comfort of a warm and friendly pool. The hydrotherapy pool is designed with physical aids to allow easy access into the water.

The sessions available include

The Cambridge Disabled Kids Swimming Club runs a session on a Saturday morning. The session is aimed at kids of any age from birth to 19 with any disability. It is the opportunity for them to enjoy swimming in an environment of tolerance and understanding. The sessions are run by a qualified instructor and a number of volunteers are there to help. Private hire for birthday parties and other fun events

Pool parties

Windmill Pool Party

The Windmill pool is available for private hire for pool parties and costs £99.

Pool parties are for up to 16 swimmers with inflatables, toys, music and lights.

Each session’s hire includes the use of the adjacent school hall. The pool session is for 45 minutes with an additional 60 minutes in the hall.

Any swimmers under 8 years old or any non-competent swimmers are to be accompanied in the water by an adult over 18 years old in a ratio of 2 children to 1 adult. The accompanying adults count towards the total number (16) of swimmers allowed.

Use of the school hall is included and this will be set up with the relevant number of tables and chairs for the party. Adequate space is left for any party games that the group may wish to play however all party games and food are not included and are to be provided by the hirer.

Pool facilities

The pool is 10 metres by 5 metres with a constant depth of 1.2 metres and the water is kept at a recommended hydrotherapy temperature
We have large changing areas with changing/shower beds available

Our pool is equipped with a remote hoisting system and a manual hoist. The remote tracking system extends from the changing areas to the pool. It allows us to transfer a person from their wheelchair onto the shower bed and then into the pool with ease. The manual hoist allows us to ease those visitors into the pool who find walking or climbing stairs difficult

All sessions are supervised by fully qualified life guards

A little of your time could make a big difference to someone’s life

Our volunteers help and support people with learning disabilities in many different ways, contributing their skills, experiences, energy and enthusiasm. We carefully match their individual strengths and interests to the needs of the people we help.

We help children, young people and adults with learning disabilities, along with their parents and carers, in many different ways:

Children’s and Adult services – everything from theatre and music workshops to a toddler and baby group for children with Down’s syndrome alongside an adults gardening therapy group

Family support – extra help and relief for parents and carers, including specialist support for families with a child with autism spectrum disorder or Down’s syndrome

Befriending scheme – the opportunity for young people and adults to do new things and meet new friends

Theatre and arts groups – especially structured for children and young people or adults who want to do something creative

Training and employment services – including a catering course, work experience and volunteering opportunities

Hydrotherapy – scheduled classes and private sessions for people of all ages in our fully equipped pool

Troublemakers on a theatrical adventure

Troublemakers on a theatrical adventure

Troublemakers is a performing arts group for teenagers with learning disabilities in the Cambridgeshire area.

Troublemakers students participate in all three performing arts disciplines: drama, dance and singing – with the aim of building confidence, developing communication skills and improving self-expression.

Each term our experienced tutors guide students on a fun-packed journey through various musical genres, styles and techniques. The key elements of a Troublemakers session are creativity and imagination, with staff promoting high self-esteem and independence by encouraging students to contribute ideas and take ownership of the group.

Sessions run for ten weeks during term time on Wednesdays between 5-7pm.

Troublemakers sessions may be eligible for funding using short break provision.

Befriending scheme

Our befriending scheme for young people with learning disabilities provides the friendship and support they need to participate in activities or hobbies of their choice at home or out in the community.

How the scheme works

A carefully matched volunteer visits the young person regularly and spends time with them. Typically, volunteers help their friends to do things outside their home – a trip to the cinema or a bowling alley for example. They also help them with any specific hobbies they have, and may accompany them during organised activities such as going to the gym.

We ask families using this service to consider making a regular donation to help support the scheme.

The scheme helps young people with learning disabilities by:

Encouraging them to make friends and spend time with people of their own age

Helping them to get out and enjoy themselves

Building their independence, confidence and self-esteem

Giving them a break from their parents or carers

Befriending works

For those 15 and above who want to come and socialise in a fun, relaxed environment. Held on the first and third Saturday of every month at Eddie’s, Lancaster House, Capper Road, Waterbeach, CB25 9LY, between 10am and 12pm, the drop-in group offers a place for people with learning disabilities and/or autism to meet, make new friends and have fun taking part in games, craft, music and drama activities. Catering & hospitality course in St Johns College

Is this course for you?

Huntingdonshire Regional College work in partnership with St. John’s College Cambridge and Eddies to deliver an off- site study programme for those learners who are interested in a career in Catering and Hospitality. The programme is delivered in the Catering and Conference Department of St Johns College in Cambridge. Learners will have practical experience of working in the kitchen, plate wash, Buttery (cafeteria) and the Combination Room (formal Fellows dining room).

What you will study?

Learners will work towards a Gateway Certificate in Skills for hospitality and catering building on the intro to catering programme. The topics to be covered are Introduction to the Hospitality industry, Customer Service, Basic Cooking, Basic food prep, serving food and drink, using numeracy skills at work and conduct at work. Maths and English are embedded within work skills and functional maths and English will be delivered in a classroom setting. Foundation food hygiene. On a Monday the learners have a cooking session at an off- site kitchen: they shop, prepare, cook and serve a two course meal in which they eat for their lunch. Learners have an opportunity to take part in work experience.

The course covers a range of basic catering and hospitality skills, providing those who take part with:

· A good foundation in the catering and hospitality industry

· The chance to develop numeracy, literacy and social skills

· The chance to build their confidence, independence and self-esteem
